Abacus International, Asias leading travel facilitator today announced the further expansion of its Low Cost Carrier (LCC) airfare content with the first GDS partnership with Malaysian low cost carrier, Firefly.

With immediate effect, all 15,000 Abacus-connected travel agency locations will be able to access Fireflys content through the Abacus Whiz system.

Abacus Internationals Vice President for North Asia and Content Marketing, Mr Patrick Lai, said the company was pleased to be the first and only Global Distribution Service (GDS) to secure Firefly fares.

Abacus is committed to providing our agents with the best content and solutions they need and Low Cost Carriers are an important dimension of that.

Firefly flies to popular regional tourist destinations like Penang, Koh Samui and Phuket, at competitive fare pricing. With its impressive growth last year and the increased consumer demand for its low fares, Firefly is an important addition to the airfare content available on Abacus Whiz, said Mr Lai.

Firefly is based in Penang at the northern region, and Subang in the central region. A subsidiary of MAS and dubbed Malaysias first community airline, Firefly began operations in April 2007 and currently flies to eight destinations in Malaysia and Thailand.

Managing Director of Firefly, Mr Eddy Leong, said the distribution deal with Abacus was an important strategic decision for the community-based airline.

As we are working with our parent company, Malaysian Airlines, on an expansion programme and is vital that we have reliable and broad-reaching distribution channels. Abacus provides us the best reach in the Asian region, said Mr Leong.

In a highly competitive travel environment, Abacus number one priority is to assist travel agents to increase their efficiency for enquiries, bookings and ticketing, ultimately saving them time and increasing their revenue streams by providing seamless access to the broadest possible range of travel content, said Mr Lai.

Abacus already distributes fares from LCCs Air Asia, Jet Star Asia and Indias Deccan.
