Friday, 1 February 2008: A new biometric solution for baggage handling is to be introduced at Landvetter and Arlanda by Scandinavian Airlines System (SAS).
SAS Srevige is introducing fingerprinting as a means of baggage identification. When commuters check in their baggage they supply a fingerprint which is stored temporarily, and upon boarding the plane the commuter again provides a fingerprint which is matched with that which was taken prior.
The aim of the process is to ensure that the person with the baggage is also the person boarding the plane in a more efficient manner.
Identifying yourselves by providing fingerprints will facilitate our customers travel and is entirely voluntary since the use of ordinary ID documents is still an option, said Susanne Dahlberg, Commercial Director for SAS.
Personal integrity is protected because the information concerning the fingerprint is erased at the end of the flight.
The new system begins January 29 from Arlanda to Lule and Gothenburg and from Gothenburg to Arlanda, and will soon after be fully functional to and from all SAS Sveriges domestic routes, excluding rnskldsvik.
