British Airways looks for new merger opportunities

Friday, 19 October 2007：Reports claim that British Airways are examining their merger possibilities in hopes of making a mega trans-Atlantic carrier in defence to Delta and Air France’s joint venture. Members of the aviation industry believe British Airways are in discussions with BMI controlling shareholder, Michael Bishop, about purchasing the British carrier, reported The Times Newspaper. However, a British Airways spokesperson has denied they are in talks with BMI. The airline has also previously tried twice to merge with American Airlines, however was prevented in doing so by competition regulators. Reports claim it will renew its efforts for a third time. "American Airlines is a key partner for us and in the long term we would like a closer relationship with them," said the British Airways spokesperson.
