Tuesday, 4 September 2007:Amadeus, worldwide leader in technology and distribution solution provision for the travel and tourism industries, announced their first half business results for the months ending June 30, 2007. Results for the first six months of 2007 were positive with total bookings reaching 281.5 million, an increase of 6.7%. Bookings made online also rose during this period by 20.4% and made up for 17.4% of total air bookings. Amadeus are also trying to eliminate any obstacles with industry-wide e-ticketing by introducing an Electronic Ticketing Direct system to non-Billing and Settlement Plan markets. During the first half of 2007, an additional 52% of bookings were made through resellers than the previous year due to Amadeus’ partnerships with resellers to assist the online corporate travellers worldwide. Travel agency air bookings made through Amadeus were also up at 32.9%, an increase of 2% points from last year. During this year, 150 airlines have signed Amadeus’ low-fare content agreements. Content for over 52 low cost carriers in Amadeus can also be accessed by travel agents. “We have calculated that our travel agency partners booked EUR 31.7 billion-worth of air tickets on Amadeus in the first half of 2007 clearly demonstrating the continuing value of the travel agency channel for our airline partners,” said José Antonio Tazón, President and CEO of Amadeus.Through Amadeus’ e-Retail engine, Amadeus created EUR$3.6 billion worth of revenue in online booking, which is an increase of 38% from the same time last year. At the Business Travel World Awards, Amadeus e-Travel Management received the awards for ‘Best Business Travel Product’ as well as the ‘Best Technology Provider’ at Buying Business Travel Diamond Awards.
